SASUKE RISING (or SASUKE 28) was the first SASUKE tournament in over a year due to Monster9's bankruptcy and the first since Urushihara Yuuji's second kanzenseiha. It taped in October 2012 and aired on December 27, 2012.

Inui Masato returned as director for his first tournament since SASUKE 14. From Inui's tenure, the black mats from SASUKE 13 to 17 were used and many old obstacles, such as the Godantobi, returned. However, many new obstacles also premièred, most notably the Backstream, SASUKE's first swimming obstacle.

SASUKE RISING was notable as the final competition for the SASUKE All-Stars. Five of the six All-Stars (excluding Shiratori Bunpei who was injured) competed for the final time, but all five failed the First Stage. In their place, a new group, Shin Sedai, was formed with Urushihara Yuuji, Matachi Ryo, Kanno Hitoshi, and Asa Kazuma. The four New Stars were the last four men standing in this tournament.

Auditions were held in Osaka and Tokyo in September for this tournament. The auditions consisted of a 30 second presentation and a 100 push up contest. While potential competitors were required to attend these auditions, their results were not binding to their invitations, as many veterans of SASUKE returned regardless of their performance.

The First Stage was heavily modified from SASUKE 27 and several classic obstacles were modified. The Godantobi returned for its first tournament since SASUKE 11. The Spin Bridge was moved to the third obstacle and the Jump Hang and Soritatsu Kabe were brought back in modified versions as the Jump Hang Kai and the Ni Ren Soritatsu Kabe, resulting in a much shorter and quicker First Stage. In fact, the First Stage had the shortest time limit since SASUKE 17. Results were much worse than in SASUKE 27 as only five people cleared with the Rolling Escargot and Spin Bridge doing most of the damage. It look 37 competitors until someone cleared the Spin Bridge and only one person out of the first 50 competitors, Someya Koki, cleared the Jump Hang Kai. Someya went on to clear the First Stage along with the 4 Shin Sedai members listed above.

The Second Stage was also heavily modified as every obstacle was either new or in a modified form from a previous competition. The new Swap Salmon Ladder eliminated Someya while Matachi Ryo timed out on the new Passing Wall.

The Third Stage saw a mixture of new and old obstacle return after a long hiatus. The Rumbling Dice, Curtain Cling, and Pipe Slider returned while new obstacles included the Iron Paddler, Vertical Limit, and the newest version of the Cliffhanger, the Crazy Cliffhanger. Similar to SASUKE 18, the three competitors to make it to Stage 3 all failed the Crazy Cliffhanger.

SASUKE 27, official name: SASUKE2011秋 (literally SASUKE 2011 Fall), is the third tournament after Urushihara Yuuji defeated the course. Early rumors after SASUKE 26 stated that SASUKE 27 would be held in March 2011 and would be the final SASUKE tournament as a casualty of TBS' cutbacks. However, TBS denied the rumor and eventually released a statement inviting participants to a trial tournament in June, with the competition being taped in July.

Three trials were held before the proposed taping. Monster9 announced a trial for June, but an exact date has not been confirmed. American Ninja Warrior returned for its third season, which once again culminated in fifteen people invited to a week long boot camp to compete for ten spots in SASUKE. For the first time, Malaysia held a trial similar to ANW. There were two stages - a First Stage replica and a Final Stage replica based on the second era version. Five people cleared the First Stage, and the person who climbed the fourteen meter Final Stage in the fastest time was invited to SASUKE.

The results this tournament were vastly better, however several familiar faces were eliminated in Stage 1. Interesting defeats occured such asYamada Katsumi failing the Soritatsu Kabe, marking the 13th straight defeat for Yamada in a row; Li En Zhi unexpectedly failing the Step Slider when he grasped the rope too low and his feet hit the water; Yamamoto Shingo failing the Spin Bridge after slipping on the last boulder and flipping backwards into the water; and Drew Drechsel tearing his ACL on the landing of the Half-Pipe Attack. However, 27 people cleared Stage 1, the most since SASUKE 4 and the third most clears of all-time. The time limit of the First Stage was also arguably quite lenient, with 18 of the 27 competitors finishing with over 10 seconds left. 9 Americans cleared the First Stage, which was also a record. David Campbell set the new First Stage Time record with 44.32 seconds, and Nagano Makoto finished the First Stage for the first time since SASUKE 23.

No changes were made to the Second Stage from the previous tournament. Kanno Hitoshi withdrew after a shoulder injury on the Slider Drop, while several people failed the Double Salmon Ladder and Metal Spin. Ishikawa Terukazu finished the stage with a mere 00.06 seconds, beating both Hasegawa Ken's and James Okada's records of 00.1 seconds in SASUKE 1 and SASUKE 7, respectively. The field thinned from 27 to 10.

The Third Stage was heavily tweaked. The Ultimate Cliffhanger was moved to the third obstacle, and the Flying Bar was moved to the second obstacle. The Arm Bike and a tweaked version of the Pipe Slider named the Bar Glider returned. New obstacles such as the Chain See-Saw and Swing Circle appeared. Ishikawa and Okuyama failed the Flying Bar, Campbell, Kasemir, Nagano, Stratis, and McGrath failed the Ultimate Cliffhanger and Hashimoto failed the Chain See-Saw. Unlimited Cliffer's Urushihara and Matachi passed Stage 3, Urushihara for the third time in three appearances and Matachi on his first try.

In the Final Stage Matachi Ryo failed several feet away from the top, but Urushihara Yuuji achieved a second Kanzenseiha with 6.7 seconds, the fastest Kanzenseiha time.

The 26th competition, official name: SASUKE2011謹賀新年 (literally: SASUKE 2011 Happy New Year) is the second tournament after Urushihara Yuuji's kanzenseiha in SASUKE 24. The tournament was recorded on October 19, 2010 and aired on January 2, 2011 as part of TBS' New Years Specials. Due to sharing a time slot with another show, the broadcast of the tournament was much shorter than previous tournaments, resulting in many competitor's runs getting either cut or digested.

For the second time in three tournaments, no domestic trials competition ever materialized. East of the Pacific, however, a second American Ninja Warrior competition was held (concluding the previous August), the first American trials since SASUKE 23, and similar to the first American Ninja Warrior, ten competitors were sent. For the first time ever, footage of a SASUKE competition hit the airwaves before the TBS broadcast; the ten Americans that qualified through the American trials had their runs shown in North America on December 23, 2010. A Taiwanese trials competition was also planned, but was subsequently canceled. Despite this, the venerable Li En Zhi was invited by TBS to compete.

Only three SASUKE All-Stars were able to attend this competition; Akiyama Kazuhiko, Shiratori Bunpei and Takeda Toshihiro all had prior engagements. Also notably absent was Levi Meeuwenberg, who qualified for the tournament but subsequently broke his wrist and had to be replaced.

Stage One was heavily modified from SASUKE 25. With the removal of the Rolling Maruta and Log Grip , this was the first ever competition not to feature a log obstacle. Only three obstacles -- the Soritatsu Kabe, Tarzan Rope and Rope Ladder -- returned from the previous tournament; the Jumping Spider and Half-Pipe Attack returned after a one-competition hiatus. Four brand new obstacles made their debuts. The Step Slider, Hazard Swing and Rolling Escargot began the stage and the Giant Swing added before the Tarzan Rope. The new obstacles did their damage; the Rolling Escargot eliminated at least 19 contestants, including top flight competitors such as Takahashi Kenji, Kanno Hitoshi, Miyazaki Daisuke and Yamamoto Shingo. Yamada Katsumi's return engagement did not go as he hoped as he failed the Jumping Spider in a remarkably similar fashion as SASUKE 22. Nagano Makoto also failed the Jumping Spider, meaning that no All-Star made it halfway through Stage One. The Giant Swing however, only eliminated one competitor. Shin Sedai's Sato Jun and Tajima Naoya were cut completely (although it is known Tajima failed the Jumping Spider) and Urushihara failed the Half Pipe Attack, meaning no former champion beat Stage One.

Ten people cleared Stage One. For the first time ever, more foreign competitors made it to Stage Two than domestic, giving the rest of the competition a decidedly international flavor and sparking some national pride from the Japanese competitors that remained. A record six foreigners passed Stage One, beating the old record of four which was set in SASUKE 23. Among the six were five Americans, which also beat the previous record of three, also set in SASUKE 23. American rookies Paul Kasemir and Brent Steffensen joined sophomores Travis Furlanic and David Campbell as first-time Stage Two competitors, along with SASUKE veterans Brian Orosco and Taiwan's Li En Zhi. Domestically, Ishikawa Terukazu, Iketani Naoki, Okuyama Yoshiyuki and Hashimoto Koji cleared.

Stage Two remained unmodified from the last competition. Iketani, who has competed sporadically over the last few years, hadn't cleared Stage One since SASUKE 16. He was erased by the Double Salmon Ladder, as was Ishikawa. The Balance Tank claimed Furlanic while another old favorite, the Metal Spin, eliminated Hashimoto. Paul Kasemir, Brent Steffenson,and David Campbell all cleared Stage Two, doing so in their first attempts. Brian Orosco and Li En Zhi also cleared. Okuyama Yoshiyuki was the only Japanese competitor to pass this stage, doing so with a mere three tenths of a second remaining.

The Third Stage introduced one new obstacle, Cycling Road, replacing the Floating Boards. The Roulette Cylinder was modified to include two drops into the track, much like when the Rolling Maruta morphed into the Sandan Rolling Maruta. While rookie Kasemir failed the Doorknob Grasper, Orosco failed the Roulette Cylinder, marking the first time he did not make it past his previous failure point. Campbell, Steffenson, Li and Okuyama all made it to the feared Ultimate Cliffhanger. While progress was made, little more than half the obstacle was cleared with Li making it the farthest and the tournament ended here.

The 25th competition, official name: SASUKE2010春 (literally SASUKE2010 Spring) is the first tournament after Urushihara Yuuji's kanzenseiha. Like the other two competitions following a Final Stage completion (SASUKE 5 and SASUKE 18), the course was altered to increase the difficulty significantly.

SASUKE 25 was recorded February 20, 2010 and aired March 28, 2010 on TBS; the running time was 4 hours. People from every prefecture in Japan and most major world geographic regions were represented in this tournament.

Start Positions #1-#97 were drawn at random using a lottery, resulting in veterans Takeda Toshihiro, Levi Meeuwenberg and Satō Jun receiving their lowest start positions ever. The final three start positions were reserved for the three former champions; Akiyama Kazuhiko was given #98, Nagano Makoto wore #99, and reigning champion Urushihara Yuuji was granted the coveted #100.

Stage One was peppered with obstacles coming out of retirement and brand new ones. The time limit was decreased by five seconds from the previous competition and the red carpets from the Shin-SASUKE era were removed in favor of the old green color of the early days. With the removal of the Jumping Spider, this marked the first competition in which a spider walking obstacle was absent. Of the new obstacles, the Dome Steps took out competitors at a similar rate as its predecessors, but very few had problems with the Bridge Jump. The three returning obstacles -- the Rolling Maruta, Jump Hang and Circle Slider -- had similar success rates to their first go around on the SASUKE course. A total of eleven people cleared: SASUKE All-Stars Takeda Toshihiro and Yamamoto Shingo, former SASUKE Trials qualifiers Satō Jun, Hashimoto Kōji, Kanno Hitoshi and Urushihara Yuuji, international competitors Li En Zhi, Levi Meeuwenberg and Brian Orosco, and SASUKE veterans Takahashi Kenji and Okuyama Yoshiyuki. All eleven had cleared Stage One in prior tournaments.

Stage Two, although remaining largely unmodified, began with two new obstacles -- the Slider Drop and a Salmon Ladder variant, the Double Salmon Ladder, In the second half of the stage, the ending rope of the Balance Tank was severely shortened and the track was slightly longer than the SASUKE 24 version. Together, these new obstacles eliminated Urushihara, Takeda, Meeuwenberg, Kanno, and Yamamoto, all of whom had reached Stage Three multiple times in the past. Ultimately, five men cleared the stage, including Orosco, who did so with a mere 1.4 seconds left on the clock. Orosco had never cleared the Second Stage before while the other four reached the Final Stage in the previous tournament.

The biggest renovation came in Stage Three, with all seven obstacles making their respective SASUKE debuts. Large curtains covered the obstacles until the Third Stage was to commence. Orosco failed the second obstacle, the Doorknob Grasper, while everyone else failed the new Ultimate Cliffhanger, the fourth obstacle, leaving the final three virgin territory. Since no one attempted them, the names of the three remaining obstacles aren't known.

The 24th competition, official name: SASUKE2010元日 (literally SASUKE2010 New Year's Day) is the seventh tournament since Nagano Makoto's kanzenseiha. It was aired January 1, 2010. The broadcast lasted a record five and a half hours. Two preshows aired. The navi aired on December 28, 2009 and a preview show, dubbed the "SASUKE History Special", aired an hour before the tournament.

In Stage One, the X-Bridge replaced the Curtain Slider. However, 12 were able to clear the first stage, and it included many former trial qualifiers and recurring competitors. In his return after SASUKE 23, three time finalist Omori Akira suprisingly failed the Jyunidantobi when he failed to land stably on the last step. Threatening retirement once again, Yamada Katsumi made it through much of the First Stage but was stopped at the Soritatsu Kabe. Takeda Toshihiro was the only SASUKE All-Star to clear stage 1; this was his 15th time doing so, a SASUKE record. Kanno Hitoshi and Yamamoto Shingo both timed out on the Tarzan Rope after commiting the same faults (having to swing twice to land on the landing platform on the Half-Pipe Attack, and taking multiple attempts on the Soritatsu Kabe). Nagano Makoto made it to the end of Jumping Spider but he was too low and slipped into the water. It was Nagano's second earliest failure (along with Jump Hang in SASUKE 10). The time limit also seemed to be very lenient as 3 competitors (Takahashi Kenji,Urushihara Yuuji, and Tajima Naoya) managed to clear with more than 20 seconds on the clock and 4 (Kawaguchi Tomohiro, Ishikawa Terukazu, Hashimoto Koji, and Sato Jun) cleared with more than 10 seconds.

In Stage Two, most competitors went deep into the course. Despite the addition of a newly redesigned Balance Tank, 7 managed to clear, including Takahashi Kenji who did so with 32.11 seconds left. The two obstacles that eliminated the most competitors in the previous competition, the Salmon Ladder and the Unstable Bridge, only eliminated Sato Jun and Kawaguchi Tomohiro. The Metal Spin eliminated 3 competitors (Sato Hiromichi, Ishikawa Terukazu, and Washimi Yuuji). For the record thirteenth time, Takeda Toshihiro made it into the third stage.

In Stage Three, A new obstacle was added, the Rope Junction, which proved to be a strength drainer as no one failed it. Competitors again went deep into the course. Nobody failed the Shin-Cliffhanger and 5 competitors, all consecutively, cleared, including 4 from #92 to #95. Tajima Naoya made a faux pas on the stage's final obstacle, the Gliding Ring. He failed to realize that the ring was behind stopper and lost his grip when he tried to take off and the ring did not slide. Takeda Toshihiro was once again unable to clear as he was too exhausted on the Spider Flip and failed on the 1st wall. Okuyama Yoshiyuki became the oldest competitor to attempt the final stage, doing so at age 39, breaking Nagano Makoto's record (he attemped the final stage at age 37 in the previous tournament).

In the Final Stage, the first two competitors timed out on the G-Rope as did the competitors in the last two competitors. However, Urushihara Yuuji managed to clear with 3.57 seconds left and became the third person to achieve kanzenseiha, joining SASUKE All-Stars Akiyama Kazuhiko and Nagano Makoto who interestingly both failed Stage One. The remaining two final stage compeitiors also ran out of time when climbing the G-Rope.

The 23rd Competition, official name: SASUKE2009秋 (literally Sasuke 2009 Fall), is the sixth tournament since Nagano Makoto's kanzenseiha in SASUKE 17. This is arguably one of the best and most controversial tournaments to not have a winner. Preliminary trials were held before this tournament. The SASUKE Trials had six representatives and the American Ninja Challenge had ten. Several new obstacles were introduced into the course. In the First Stage, the Jyunidantobi replaced the Rokudantobi and the Curtain Slider replaced the Circle Hammer. However, even with these new obstacles, the results of this tournament were vastly better than any Shin-SASUKE tournament. An amazing 16 people cleared, the most since SASUKE 16. The SASUKE Trials had four of its six representatives clear along with two more former qualifiers,Urushihara Yuuji and Kanno Hitoshi. Of the American Ninja Warrior qualifiers, three cleared. This tournament also proved to be the resurgence of the SASUKE All-Stars. While only four competed, the fewest since all six were named "All-Stars", three of them cleared and all of them got to the Slider Jump. 8 of the last ten people cleared, including 6 straight people from #92 to #97. After 2 and a half years and 5 failed attempts, Yamamoto Shingo finally cleared the First Stage. Nagano Makoto had to run his First Stage attempt twice. In the first run, he made it to the Slider Jump but because of a malfunction, he failed there. He was allowed to run again after a break and cleared with ease.

In the Second Stage, the Unstable Bridge was introduced to replace the Swing Ladder. Nine people were eliminated in the second stage, including the first seven competitors. Seven were able to clear the Second Stage, including the three remaining SASUKE All-Stars. With the exception of Yamamoto Shingo, the seven had previously attempted Shin-Sasuke's Third stage and. This was the record twelfth time that Takeda Toshihiro made it to the Third Stage.

In the third stage, record five people cleared the Shin-Cliffhanger. The Spider Flip saw the elimination of two people and the Gliding Ring eliminated Takahashi Kenji. Kanno Hitoshi was able to beat the Spider Flip that disqualified him last time and went on the clear. Nagano Makoto cleared the Third Stage and advanced to the Final Stage for his fifth time, a record among SASUKE participants.

The time limit in the final stage was cut from 45 to 40 seconds. Kanno Hitoshi ran out of time and was pulled up to the platform. Nagano Makoto was able to reach the platform, but he was short of the goal when time ran out.

The 22nd Competition, official name: SASUKE2009春 (literally SASUKE 2009 Spring), is the fifth tournament since Nagano Makoto's kanzenseiha in SASUKE 17. Preliminary trials were held before this tournament. The SASUKE 22 Trials had seven representatives and the United States had four. Before this tournament started, the executive producer of the show was changed. Due to the great results of SASUKE 21, two new obstacles were added into the First Stage. Replacing the Pole Maze, the Circle Hammer was added as the second obstacle and functioned as a time-waster, although it eliminated several joke competitors. The Log Grip was moved to the third obstacle to accommodate for the Circle Hammer. The Slider Jump was also added, replacing the Flying Chute as the seventh obstacle. This was a new, harder addition that eliminated challengers such as Levi Meeuwenberg. The course was much tougher and time limit was much stricter in this tournament and the results showed. The broadcast was also severly cut up and placed out of order, unlike previous tournaments, causing confusion on what number was next. Only 5 people managed to clear the First Stage, including two SASUKE Trial Qualifiers, Kanno Hitoshi and Urushihara Yuuji. For the second time in SASUKE history, the last ten people (#91-100) failed. Also for the second time in history, all 5 SASUKE All-Stars that competed failed. The first time for both of these incidents was SASUKE 19. In the Second Stage, all five competitors cleared the Salmon Ladder, and a Shin-SASUKE record 4 people passed the Second Stage and moved onto the Third. The Third Stage proved to see a rise of new stars as the SASUKE Trial Qualifiers went the furthest. Kanno Hitoshi in his first attempt at the Third Stage beat the Shin-Cliffhanger that only Nagano Makoto and Takeda Toshihiro beat before. He eventually made it all the way to the Spider Flip before getting disqualified. Urushihara Yuuji breezed through most of the Third Stage and became the first person since Shiratori Bunpei in SASUKE 12 to beat the Third Stage on his first attempt. With his clear, the new Final Stage was finally known. However, Urushihara came just inches short of kanzenseiha.

The 21st Competition, official name: SASUKE2008秋 (literally Sasuke 2008 fall), is the fourth tournament since Nagano Makoto's kanzenseiha in SASUKE 17, and the tournament in which Urushihara Yuuji made his debut. Prior to this tournament, preliminary trials were held in both Japan and the United States. The SASUKE 21 Trials had eight representatives and the United States had six (although only three actually qualified). Due to the poor results of the last two tournaments, the course was kept virtually the same. In fact, only one new obstacle, the Hang Climbing, was introduced. The results in this tournament were vastly better than SASUKE 19 or SASUKE 20 as 9 people cleared the First Stage, including the last four consecutive competitors (a Shin-Sasuke record). In the Second Stage, the Salmon Ladder eliminated four of the nine, and only three were able to clear. Two-time Pro Sportsman #1 champion Miyazaki Daisuke cleared the First and Second Stages for the first time but failed the Devil Steps in the Third Stage, the earliest third stage failure in Shin-Sasuke. In his record-breaking 11th appearance in the Third Stage, Takeda became the first person to clear the Shin-Cliffhanger. Nagano made it to the final obstacle in the Third Stage, the Gliding Ring, where a flaw in design made the obstacle much more difficult than imagined. As a result, Nagano failed there, ending the tournament. For an unprecedented fourth straight tournament, no one made it to the Final Stage.

This tournament marked a return to dominance for the SASUKE All-Stars as all five who competed made it to the Soritatsu Kabe, three of them cleared the First Stage (the most since SASUKE 17), and Nagano and Takeda cleared the Second Stage.

The 20th Competition, official name: 新SASUKE2008春 第20回記念大会 (literally Shin-Sasuke 2008 Spring 20th Anniversary Tournament), is the third tournament since Nagano Makoto's win in SASUKE 17, and the 20th Competition since the first SASUKE held back in 1997. Preliminary trials were held before this tournament. The Sasuke 20 Trials had four representatives and the United States had three. To celebrate this historic tournament, the numbering system went from #1901-#2000, similar to SASUKE 10. Despite the course being almost identical to SASUKE 19 (with a few minor changes), only 3 out of 100 people managed to beat the First Stage, the second worst in SASUKE history. Many people failed the Half-Pipe Attack. In the Second Stage, the results were mixed. Okuyama Yoshiyuki failed the Stick Slider when his pipe got disconnected from the tracks. Levi Meeuwenberg cleared with an amazing 38.5 seconds left, a SASUKE record. The second man to achieve kanzenseiha, Nagano Makoto shocked many when he failed the Downhill Jump. The last person standing, Levi Meeuwenberg, failed at the Shin-Cliffhanger.

The 19th Competition, official name: 新SASUKE2007秋 (literally Shin-Sasuke 2007 Fall), is the second tournament since Nagano Makoto's kanzenseiha in SASUKE 17. Preliminary trials were held in Muscle Park (one representative) and in the United States (two representatives). The course was vastly altered from SASUKE 18, and the results showed. The Flying Chute was particularly dangerous as only four out of the thirteen that attempted it cleared; it was also where notable competitors Nagano Makoto, Nagasaki Shunsuke, and Nagasaki Takamasa failed. Only 2 out of 100 people managed to beat the First Stage, the worst result in SASUKE history. Every obstacle in the First Stage was either modified to make it harder, or replaced outright with a harder obstacle. For the first time in Sasuke history, the last ten competitors (#91-100) failed. All 5 SASUKE All-Stars have failed the 1st Stage for the very first time ever. The two competitors that made it to the Second Stage both failed on the Salmon Ladder (one time-up and one failure), marking the earliest end of a SASUKE competition.

The 18th Competition, official name: 新SASUKE2007春 (literally Shin-Sasuke 2007 Spring), is the first tournament since Nagano Makoto's kanzenseiha in SASUKE 17. Like SASUKE 5, the course was significantly altered to increase the difficulty. However, the course and difficulty was so significantly altered that a new era of SASUKE was born, Shin-SASUKE (literally "New SASUKE"). For the sake of fairness, a 1200m run was conducted before the tournament allowing competitors to choose their own number. The new First Stage was much longer than previous tournaments, as the time limit was increased to 130 seconds, the longest in SASUKE history. Every obstacle in the First Stage was brand new. Because of the increased difficulty and unfamiliarity of the obstacles, the results in this tournament were vastly worse than previous tournaments as only six people cleared, the worst since SASUKE 10. Also, the mats were changed from black in colour to red. In the Second Stage, only the Metal Spin returned, every other obstacle was new. The real killer was a new obstacle, the Salmon Ladder as it eliminated half of the six remaining competitors. The remaining three competitors cleared the new Second Stage to move onto the new Third Stage. Half of the Third Stage was brand new and it was a new obstacle, the Shin-Cliffhanger that eliminated the remaining three competitors. Nagano Makoto made it the furthest but got disqualified on the Shin-Cliffhanger, making it the shortest end to a tournament until that point.
